The British museum is a museum in London dedicated to human history and culture. Its permanent collection, numbering some 8 million works, is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.

The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759 in Montagu House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building.

In the comics[]

The British museum houses Sir Francis Drake's drums, a mystical item that warns whenever the British nation is in danger from a supernatural threat.

In Hellblazer: Pandemonium, magical terrorist bombed the museum in order to kill John Constantine and an unknown Muslim girl. The bombing was an allegory of author Jamie Delano as his negative view of the War against Terrorism and the 2005 London Underground bombing, which took place in the same year as the graphic novel.

Real life[]

Original Hellblazer writer, Jamie Delano also claims to have encountered Constantine, during his run on the character, outside the British Museum.[1]
